Looking Beyond LAMP: Project 3 Wrap Up

Before we begin diving into the next lesson and project, let us first look back at the project we have just completed. It is essential we understand each step and understand what we are now able to do with our PI's.

What Have We Created?

By the simple installation of a Linux based operating system, Apache web server software, MySQL database engine, and PHP programming language, we have created what you call a LAMP based web server.

What Can it Do?

A key feature that our PI's can now do that it was not able to do before is that it can serve up the web pages we have stored to clients. Clients is a fancy word for a computing device that is requesting services, such as your laptop or iphone. When a client wants to see a web page that we currently have stored on our PI's, it is able to do so by typing in the address of our computer. (IP address, to be specific.) Everyone verify this for yourself by typing in the IP address of your PI in the web browser of your smartphone. You should be able to see the web page you have created.
